Catfishing Social Media Story-

Medium: Radio

Title: Dark Secrets

(Working Titles/Ideas):

  • The True Crime of Instagram
  • Him and I.
  • Dark Lies
  • Web of Lies.
  • Promises of Love
  • Dark Secrets
Type of Programme: Radio Documentary and Dramatization.

Proposed Content: A young girl meets a boy on Instagram; unbeknownst to her, the boy who she started a relationship with started to become obsessive over her and their relationship started to drain her mental health as the relationship was becoming too toxic.

The Radio Dramatization Documentary covers the topics of how young people should be safe online, how people may not be all that they say they are. As the documentary covers a toxic relationship, the documentary can help young people with what they can do and to go to someone that they can trust to console into so if they need help they know where to go.

Sound Effects: Phone Ringing, Instagram notification, typing on the phone, heart beating, footsteps.

Atmospheric Sound: Birds chirping (for outside), school chatter/bell ringing, noisy house (someone cooking in the kitchen?), kids yelling in the background (park), car motor and radio playing in the background (in the car.)

Music: Upbeat music to emphasize the happiness of the main protagonist at the start, as the radio programme progresses the music becomes more lower and less livelier in atmosphere. Loud catching off guard music that emphasizes her shock and the betrayal of the girl when she discovers the boy that she has been talking to was not all that she seemed.

Target Audience: As our Radio Drama/ Documentary is going to be aired on a channel that is meant for families, we believe that our main target audience for this radio programme are going to teenagers. My reason for this is being that teenagers are the the ones that use Social Media the most according to research, and a lot may already want to start dating. This Radio Dramatization informs our audience of the dangers of online dating, deception and how to reach out for help if you feel as if you may be struggling.

Launch Date:

The launch date for our Radio Programme is going to be on: The 21st of May; we would have already finished preparing everything for our Radio Programme to launch so it is perfected and there are no mistakes whilst also giving the Radio channel time to sort out a schedule for when our Radio programme is going to launch and if it is all ready to be aired live. The 21st of May 2022 is also on a Saturday and could be aired at 2pm. Most of our target audience would still be in school on the Friday, so airing it at a time where our target audience is free and can listen can probably draw in more viewers for our radio programme.
